Joe Cain
BASS Pro Trainer
Level 4 ISTD
Joe will be operating in Val D'Isere and Tignes.
He joined the team in 2015, he has many years of teaching experience working with ski schools from USA, Switzerland and France. He grew up in Bournemouth but has made a permanent home for himself and his family in Tignes since 2012.
I started skiing when I was 4 years old, we went on a family ski trip to Borovets in Bulgaria, it was the first time any of my family skied and everyone loved it straight away, so from then on we went on at least one family trip every year. When I finished Uni I decided to do a winter season and I have been living in the mountains ever since.
My first instructor job was in Verbier Switzerland working with Altitude snow sports school I did a couple of weeks with them in 2004 then was offered a full time position for the following winter season which I very happily accepted I spent the next 3 winters with them while working through my BASI exams. Verbier was a lot of fun especially for someone in there 20’s, lots of big nights out and the skiing was pretty good to. After leaving Verbier I went off to America and then back to Switzerland until finally settling in Tignes France in 2012. I have been working with BASS since 2015, with BASS I get to the opportunity to work with a very wide range of clients from complete beginners all the way up to training instructors which keeps the job very interesting, also working in France gives you the financial stability needed to make ski instructing a proper career allowing you to live and raise a family, whereas in other countries I’ve worked it is treated more like a bit of fun for kids to do in their gap years
Elliot Stone
Level 4 ISTD
Teaching in Val D'Isere & Tignes
I started as a young child on family holidays in Scotland. I remember skiing in Lecht and Glenshee
mainly, both of which bringing challenging wet conditions. As well as this, I used to ski at my local dry ski slope in Rossendale.
I first tough in Sahoro, Japan which is different from the Alps. The main difference being the
conditions. Meters of powder snow fell throughout the season which really puts a smile on everybody’s face. As well as the conditions, having lessons of none English speaking clients really made
things interesting.

Steve MacDonald
Teaching Snowboarding in Val D'iser & Tignes
Originally from Helensburgh, near Glasgow, I started snowboarding in 1998 while on student exchange in France and since then have
been riding all over the world, from Scotland to New Zealand. I moved to the Tarentaise valley in 2007. I’ve been living, working, snowboarding and mountain biking here ever since. An International
Mountain Leader and Mountain Bike guide as well as a BASI 4 Snowboard Instructor, I spend my whole year teaching in the outdoors and know the whole valley inside-out as a result. My big passion in
snowboarding is backcountry riding and touring – been splitboarding to earn my turns for many years.
Fun fact: Can’t be many people who have made snowboard descents of both Mont Blanc and Ben Nevis!
Jocelyn (Floss) Cockle
Teaching in Tignes
IFloss is a British BASI Level 4 ISTD Ski Teachers based in the Espace Killy in France. She started skiing at the age of nine on a family ski holiday and whilst "learning to ski didn’t come easy" she is now one of a limited number of British female ski instructor qualified to the highest level in her profession and is close to passing her Mountain Leader Guide qualification. Floss has been ski teaching all over the world for 17 seasons and with 19 ski seasons under her belt (she says that makes her feel old!) she's still as passionate as ever. Quite simply, Floss loves skiing, ski touring, climbing and hiking the mountains and passing her passion onto others. A specific focus for her work is teaching women how to ski on and off-piste and to enjoy touring in the backcountry.
